To our valued Lowell listeners on 100.3….
We hope you know that whenever there is an issue with our signal on 100.3 we are notified and we do our very BEST to get it back on for you.
Without lengthy explanations, just know that we deal with two different Internet Service Providers to get you the audio for your Kent County Signal. Sometimes one or the other has issues. When either does, the 100.3 signal automatically shuts down per FCC regulations.
This past outage was caused, (we think) by a local surge in power or outage that got through our large UPS (uninterruptable power supply) and scrambled the electronic brains in the device which converts internet back to normal audio. It also took out our audio processor’s main fuse.
We have temporarily substituted a different kind of receiver in full stereo to GET the audio from it’s main studios in Ionia over to Lowell. No “standard” (over the air) method works due to the terrain, and despite repeated explanations of this on our midday show, we get COUNTLESS reminders of HOW to do it….(which, if we did would require a TWO HOP signal from Ionia, to point A, to Point B…more equipment, more licensing, and quite honestly, it’s just not economically feasible nor smart.
We have also repaired the processor.
The 100.3 signal is on the air thanks to two very dedicated friends of mine who refuse to let me give up on this signal which has been difficult, to say the least, from day ONE when we signed it on. ANY “offsite” branch of ANY business is bound to have difficulties when separated from it’s main counterpart. I’ve seen it in Rent-to-own, I’ve seen it in retail, I’ve witnessed it firsthand in RADIO.
Sometime after Christmas, we’ll be replacing some components of this chain that brings you 100.3 in Lowell and Kent County…..and we’ll let you know when, and try to make the change at a time with less businesses tuned-in than in prime day hours.
Some of you may have figured out what we did to get the signal there. If you did, you’re quite smart! While it’s not “full” fidelity, it’s DAMN GOOD….for a substitute way of doing things.
To any who have missed our signal, we thank you for your patience and ask you spread the word in Lowell that you will have 100.3’s WION’s excellent Christmas programming “on the air” this year once again.
THANK YOU LOWELL, FOR HAVING US IN YOUR TOWN!!
