A couple of years ago, a YouTube content creator named Shango066 worked on an AM stereo portable radio, found to be a prototype from Motorola. We contacted him about WION being in AM stereo, and our engineer Greg who is undeniably the expert on this type of broadcasting and this type of radio. A cooperative effort was made to fix the radio and Shango posted one video on it.
Later, our friend Shango066 sent us a video camera, batteries and more so we could take footage of WION for him to put together into a “guest piece” documentary about our little station here in Ionia Michigan.

It’s remarkable that we’re getting near 100,000 views on the video as of this evening the amount being 99,852! If you stop for just a moment and realize what that means, that’s a lot of eyes that have seen that a small town radio station exists that cares about how it broadcasts and the quality of its sound and programming, and probably more important is that it’s that same amount of people that know the little town of Ionia Michigan exists!

After 21 years, we are still putting Ionia on the map better than anybody else. It’s undeniable by the numbers. We also get 7000 hours on the average listened every month online from people all over the state, the nation and the world who also by just listening, are aware that our little town exists.
Nobody does a better job of marketing the town (Ionia) which I moved to 21 years ago to put the station back on the air, back from the “dead” than the station itself, WION.

Big thank you to Shango066 and his YouTube channel for taking an interest in WION and our unique broadcasting and programming.

You can find the link to the video if you’ve never seen this tour at the top of this  website.  or by clicking here.

Twenty-One Years is a long time, and that's EXACTLY how long WION as today's "I-1430" has been serving Ionia County.  For a somewhat lesser time, we've served Kent County on 100.3, and a larger part of our Ionia county on FM 92.7.  As you also may know, we now serve […]
