When I wrote this, Facebook had been down about 15 minutes. It’s near an hour now. Messed up pretty good with things showing in the wrong categories, some people not able to get “in” while others have different issues. It’s “all over the place.”
The funny part is, “Downdetector Dot Com” from which I took the pictures of comments has a blast when this happens. Some of the comments I read are really funny…like, “What will we do, TALK to each other?” I love it. The whole world acts like FB is the ONLY way to do things…and, to those businesses who cry, scream, and moan, (because they tell REAL media they don’t need us….) remember….YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!
I use Facebook, but I don’t LIVE on Facebook, and my business, THIS radio station operates it’s own social media. We dropped FaceMonster a few years back and nobody complains. They listen, they come to THIS website for information, and they use it to reach out to us. It’s always there! Take this outage as a lesson if you’re a business owner that “doesn’t need local radio”…..especially near Christmas. YOU NEED TO BE IN CONTROL OF YOUR INTERNET REAL ESTATE. Get a website. One or two pages is fine. GET ON THE RADIO. You can afford it.
Posts are only POSTS. They’re not ADVERTISING. Unless you PAY to boost them or buy “real ads” from Facebook, and you’d still be “out” this afternoon.
I got sick of hearing “I’m on Facebook I don’t need ADVERTISING” years ago…and ya know what? A real website you can update like I do this blog is NOT hard to acquire, update, and promote. It’s OK to be on FaceMonster, but you don’t own that space on the web, you don’t decide WHO AND WHEN people see your posts….FB does. At least with your own website, what you put up is available to EVERYONE once it’s there…not held back from some til after your “all important” event is over.
And, get some LOCAL ADVERTISING! At 20-plus years here, WION knows HOW to help you.
